WASHINGTON (WUSA9) – Police continue to investigate after two officers were shot and a suspect was fatally shot in Northeast, D.C. last Thursday night.
New video found on Twitter early Friday morning shows one angle of the fatal shooting that happened around 10:40 p.m. at Morse Street and Holbrook Street, Metropolitan police said in a news conference.
Police said the video from Twitter user @black5883 only shows a part of the entire incident. Authorities stressed in the news conference that this is only one angle and the public should not draw any conclusions from the video circulating online. In the video shots are heard being fired. Two officers are seen in the middle of the street with an officer on the ground. Several officers are then seen running towards the scene.
According to the authorities, the suspect has been identified as 47-year-old Timothy Lionel Williams. Police say around 10:40 p.m., officers were responding to the sound of previous gunshots when they tried to stop Williams. Police say Williams attempted to flee and ignored the officer’s commands. A struggle ensued and police say there was an exchange of gunfire.
The two officers suffered from non-life threatening injuries. One officer has been released from the hospital and the other officer remains in stable condition at MedStar hospital.
Williams was shot and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police recovered his gun at the scene.
It is unclear who shot first at this time. Police say only one of their officers fired their weapon after reviewing the video from the body worn camera. Both of the officers will be on administrative leave.
Mayor Muriel Bowser will make the final decision on whether or not the body worn camera will be released to the public. Submitted by Toma
